School
Trailridge Elementary, a fourteen acre site, was dedicated on September 7, 1993.
The school was named by the students and parents in the Greenwood Elementary area. The mascot, the Timberwolf and the colors, black and teal were also selected by a committee of students and parents in the area. The chosen motto for the school, “Kids First” still rests at the main entrance of the school.
Trailridge Elementary opened phase one with 346 students while the second phase of the school was being built. The second phase was finished in the fall of 1994, with a full gymnasium, support services and additional classrooms. Some of those classrooms were unfinished, allowing for future growth. The finished school covered 68,196 square feet. The total cost of construction for the two phase school was $4,404,440. A third phase to the school was the addition of two kindergarten rooms. That addition was opened in 2010.
Special features of the school were a centrally located library/media center. All academic areas were located on one side of the center, and all activity areas (music, art, physical education, cafeteria) were located on the other side. The cafeteria was designed to double as a stage and multi-purpose room. The classrooms featured a “pod” configuration, so that classrooms could interact more easily. This building layout was used to promote a better academic atmosphere, while offering more flexibility to the activity areas.
Most recently, Trailridge Elementary celebrated 20 years of educating children! Trailridge continues to put “Kids First” and seeks innovative ways to create student success.
